9:18 pm - Pagliuca’s Ristorante
Ok so it was Kate’s birthday on Thursday the 14th. You all remember Kate right? She’s the one that never updates her blog yet still hounds me when I don’t update mine
. So anyway her father planned a surprise party for her at Pagliuca’s in Boston’s north end. Jamie and I meet up with Greg and rode the T in (a much more pleasant way to get around Boston than driving). Kate’s parents were there of course as well as her grandmother, aunt uncle and cousin. Aiden and Yvette from school came as well as some of Kate’s friends from home; Brie, Kat, and her future roommate Erika.
Pagliuca’s was amazing as usual. It’s a fairly small place but the food is excellent. I had a Spaghetti Carbonara which was essentially spaghetti with a cream sauce made of egg, cream, cheese, white wine, and fried bacon. It was awesome! Kate’s father was pretty funny. He kept quizzing Aiden with trivia on Ireland and Irish culture, of which Aiden knows nothing. He also kept trying to get Brie to do shots of sambuca after he twisted her arm enough to taste it. He’d order a shot for her, she wouldn’t drink it, so he’d drink it himself; it was pretty funny. After dinner and cake he went around the table asking if people wanted cappuccino. He’d say “you?” and point then count one higher “one… two… three”. Regardless of if you said yes or no he ordered another one. I think out of the 8 people he asked 2 said yes and he ordered 5.
After dinner Aiden and Yvette left and Kate’s father decided it was too early to be done yet. So we all marched down the street to Bricco which is another Italian Restaurant. I guess one of Kate’s relatives worked there but the place was far too high class (I think everyone in there was in evening gowns and suits) and far too small to handle us. On our way in I was stopped by a familiar face. Jason Jones, I didn’t recognize him at first but he’s a friend of my brother’s who went to Waterfest with us last year in his BMW. It took me a minute to realize who he was then I noticed a large wad of cash in his hand and realized he was a valet for Bicco which I thought was interesting.
After I waited outside for a short while and Kate’s mother finally convinced her father that there wasn’t enough room for us we did the smart thing and headed down to Caffe Vittoria. Almost everyone got an iced mocha and Kate’s father and cousin got gelato, I didn’t get anything, I was too stuffed from dinner (and Vittoria’s makes the best cannolis).
After Vittoria’s Kate’s family left and the rest of us went down to the water front and just hung out for a while. After the sunset we all headed home, Kate and the friends she came with to her car, and Jamie, Greg, and I to the nearest T back to ours. I didn’t get home too late but man was I exhausted. A great day overall. If you’re interested, Kate posted some pictures. I took the first few shots on the water front and other people took the rest (I swear I didn’t take that many pics of Greg). Kate made a big deal that she was going to finally let me take a bunch of pictures of her (because she always runs and hides when I try, then if I do manage take some she deletes them off of my computer later
). So anyway I gave her a hard time because once again none of the pictures I took with her in them appeared on her photo gallery. I swear I’m going to take a bunch of pictures of her when she doesn’t know it then wall-paper her new apartment with them or something.
